Leave Libourne on the D670, direction Bergerac.
In about 15 miles the D670 becomes the D936 at St Peys d’Armens (speed camera!) – keep on the D936 which now runs all the way through Moncaret and on to Bergerac.
Pass straight on through Castillon la Bataille.
After Lamothe Montravel (speed camera!) watch for a garden centre on right – “La Plantation”
Be ready to move to centre of road for left turn signed for St Vivien, Moncaret and others – just after the town sign for Moncaret (the junction has a white central reserve for vehicles turning left)
Road bends right past the boule courts and then left over the railway – keep on this road as it bends left round the Roman ruins and then right on up the hill
T junction at top of hill – tower-house opposite – turn right on the D10e3 signed for St Vivien
After Bonneville - watch for very neat hedge on right and a small sign for Le Melon – next turn right for St Vivien (2km)
The village sign for St Vivien appears on the right – turn left in about 100yds at cream house with green base
Take the next left and Les Vignes is about 150-200yds on the right (it is the last house on the right)
Just in case (!) our phone no is – 05 53 73 04 34
Just a couple of warnings:-
Observe the speed restrictions!
France, in its attempt to reduce its high death rates on the roads, now has many radar zones and speed cameras. Although at the moment it’s possible that the authorities would not pursue a car with foreign plates, ON THE SPOT FINES are being served!
The other problem we find on the small local roads is that drivers often do not restrict themselves to their side of the road, a bit disconcerting if they suddenly appear around a corner. The roads are quiet and our theory is that they consider the likelihood of meeting another vehicle slim. If I can’t see the road ahead I always drive with caution expecting the possibility of a car appearing from the bend in the centre of the road.
With all this in mind may we wish you a very Bonne Route !
Having left the airport perimeter road go straight on at the first roundabout following the signs for the Rocade (Bordeaux’s ring-road)
At the second roundabout turn right onto the Rocade following signs for Bayonne, Toulouse and Arachon
Stay on Rocade for about 12-14 miles and leave Rocade at junction 24 signed for Bergerac
At the trafic lights turn right onto the D936 following signs for Bergerac
The 936 now runs all the way to Moncaret (and beyond)
You pass through Branne and over an iron bridge, passing vineyards and signs for St Emillion
After Branne there is a roundabout – garage on left – keep following 936 straight ahead
At T junction follow to right (still 936) - there is speed camera in St Peys d'Armens - for Castillon la Bataille
After Lamothe Montravel - there is also a speed camera in Lamothe Montravel ! - watch for a Garden Centre on right – “La Plantation” –
